Businesses lament lack of available workers.
New applications for unemployment benefits fell sharply to 709,000 last week, down from 757,000 the week before. The numbers suggest layoffs are easing as the broader economy shows signs of improvement.
While jobless claims have fallen from a peak of near 7 million at the end of March, they still remain above levels of around 200,000 before the coronavirus hit the nation.
Yet business owners, such as a restaurant owner in Michigan, are pleading for people to apply for jobs. They lament that state lawmakers “make it easy to stay home and collect unemployment” amid the coronavirus.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For families across the nation who are still without work and in need of government assistance.
- That people who are out of work would be quick to apply for posted or advertised openings so that a return to a strong economy and strong community could continue.
